Camping
CAMPING IN PORMPURAAW DESIGNATED CAMP GROUNDS WILL REOPEN ON 26TH OF MAY 2025 (SUBJECT TO WET SEASON).
BOOKINGS WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED THROUGH THE BOOKING FORM ON THE WEBSITE
(NOTE - Booking Form is made active when camping bookings open for the season).

Camp bookings open at 9am (AEST) on Monday 14th of April 2025, however camping on site is not permitted until 26th of May 2025 (subject to wet season). Camping season closes each year in line with the closure of the Barramundi season and the last night for camping is 6th October 2025. Maximum length of stay is 14 nights.
Camping fees are $80 (incl GST) per vehicle per night. Please observe the maximum vehicle numbers for each campground/site.
To make a camping booking please complete the booking form by clicking the enquire button at the bottom of this page which is made active when the camp bookings open. Your booking enquiry needs to be submitted 2 weeks prior to wanting to commence your camping trip. Once your booking enquiry has been received you will receive a copy of your booking request that has been submitted for your records. Our staff will then process these bookings within 7 days of receiving your booking request and will confirm via email that your booking has been secured, these emails will be sent from: camping@pormpuraaw.qld.gov.au, so please ensure that this email address is whitelisted on your system or ensure you check your junk/spam email folder and make safe this email address for receiving future emails. When receiving the confirmation email from our staff that your camp booking has been secured, this is subject to payment of the camping fees being made within 7 days of receiving the booking confirmation email. When the 7 days has lapsed, if payment has not been received, your booking will be cancelled, and the spot reopened to the public.
Bookings are processed on a first in, first served basis. Bookings will not be accepted prior to
9am (AEST) on Monday 14th of April 2025 (no exceptions).
After receiving email confirmation of your camp booking, to make your camp booking payment in full please deposit funds into our bank account as follows:

Please send a payment advice or email confirming that payment has been made for your booking to: camping@pormpuraaw.qld.gov.au
Once payment has been received you will be emailed your camping permit. Should you have any issues with processing your payment please call (07) 40 328 221 (Mon to Fri 8am to 4pm).

RULES & REGULATIONS
ENTRY REFUSED WITHOUT A VALID PERMIT - If you fail to provide your valid permit on arrival you will be turned away. NO EXCEPTIONS. Permits are to be displayed on the dashboard of your vehicle. All vehicles must display a valid permit at all times. Rangers will undertake inspections of campsites to ensure all vehicles have a valid permit displayed. Arrival time should not be before 1pm and departure time is by midday.
REFUNDS - Fees paid are non-refundable. Refunds will only be made if roads are closed (as determined by Council)
DATE CHANGES - Are not permitted once the camping booking has been paid and secured. Any request for date changes will not be accepted. (Date changes will only be approved where Council has deemed the roads as closed)
ALCOHOL - Please see our website for our Alcohol Management Plan. Alcohol can be purchased at the Pormpuraaw United Football Club for consumption at the club. Alcohol is not permitted in public spaces or within the campgrounds on the Pormpuraaw Shire DOGIT area.
FISHING - A condition of your permit is Rangers have the right to check your fridges/freezers to confirm compliance with marine species bag limits. Please observe bag limitations during your visit.
SHOOTING/HUNTING - This is an illegal activity with the Pormpuraaw Shire DOGIT area.
RUBBISH - All rubbish must be removed from campsite on exit. Please leave the campsite in a clean state for the next visitor.
DOGS - Strictly no dogs allowed.
SORRY BUSINESS IN COMMUNITY - Please note that some families may culturally request that certain beach and river areas within the Pormpuraaw Shire DOGIT area are closed due to cultural respect of those that have recently passed. This may impact fishing activities.
OTHERS - Please report any harassment or unwelcome behavior by others to the Rangers.
- Permit holders requiring special assistance (towing or vehicle/boat retrieval) will be charged an additional fee.
- Please observe the closed areas in the Mitchell River Delta.
- Maximum of 4 vehicles per camp site for the Coleman River campgrounds.
- Maximum of 6 vehicles per camp site for the Chapman and Mungkun River campgrounds.

This Campground is 2kms South of Pormpuraaw Township which is accessed via going through the Pormpuraaw township (1 Site - 6 Vehicles Maximum)
MUNGKUN RIVER CAMPGROUND
Mungkun River - Toilet & Shower Amenities, Bore Water, Shady Trees, Shell Boat Ramp
This Campground is 7kms North of Pormpuraaw Township which is accessed via going through the Pormpuraaw township (1 Site - 6 Vehicles Maximum)
COLEMAN RIVER CAMPGROUND
Coleman River - Bush Toilets, Water Available from Pump at Waterhole 3kms from Camp Sites, Limited Shade
This Campground is approx. 40kms South of Pormpuraaw via Kowanyama (8 Sites in Total - Site # 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10A, 11 & 12) - 4 Vehicles Maximum per Site from same Booking Party)
MELLEMEN CAMPGROUND
Mellemen - Bush Toilets, Water Available from Pump at Waterhole 3kms from Camp Sites, Limited Shade
This Campground is approx. 40kms South of Pormpuraaw via Kowanyama (1 Site - 4 Vehicles Maximum)
